Ling cod live bait

Postby WABOWMAN » Tue May 03, 2016 2:42 pm

Tom,
I'm looking for help with finding live bait for lings.
I fish out of PT and have used a bait rig and give up because of not getting any. What kind of bottom are you looking for?
Also are you fishing for Lings with the rig like John's in the rocks?
Good shocks and four wheel drive!

Try the docks in the Port Townsend Boat Haven for pile perch with a mackerel skin Sabiki rig aka Herring/smelt jig. Bring a bucket with you to keep them in water.
Then bust some mussels off the pilings and head out to the sandy flats between MidChannel Bank and Point Wilson. Bait the bottom hooks of the Sabiki rig with the mussels or squid and you'll catch flounder.
Yes, we use the Martinis rig above rocky structure and you have to let them eat it!
Listen to last weeks podcast for the lowdown and good luck! cheers
