Whidbey Island coho

Postby scraig1962 » Mon Sep 28, 2015 11:21 am

After fishing Saturday (9-26-15) and only landing 1 coho despite marking fish all day and running my gear right in front of them I knew I had to change something up. I was running the standard hot spot purple haze flasher with a ace hi needlefish stuffed inside the purple haze hoochie with a herring strip and they just weren't biting. Ive caught coho on this rig before, and just about every fishing report I read mentions this setup. So Sunday I decide to change things up and run a setup I saw Robbo post a while ago which was just a green ace hi fly needlefish and the Luhr Jensen white double uv flasher you guys are always talking about. I also went down to 2/0 hooks instead of the 4/0 that I was running because it seemed more fit with the smaller ace hi fly needlefish. We ended up landing 5 coho (most ive ever caught), and lost a couple others all on that setup. It was the best morning of coho fishing I have ever had. We fished the same area as I did the day before, which was the east side of Whidbey, but the fish just couldn't resist that rig. Thanks guys.
