That wouldn't be my first choice. Silvers seem to hit bucktails really well in the Straits when they first come in, but by the time they hit the sound they don't hit them as well. A cut plug trolled behind a 3 or 4 ounce mooching sinker will still get some strikes. Bucktail...not so much. That's been my experience at least ;)

I've fished the canal for the past couple decades and agree with Robbo. Herring is my first choice followed by spoons (coho killers or kingfisher spoons).

Also from my experience in the canal, 2-4 oz banana weights with long leaders fished 10-15 pulls back seem to be one of the more effective ways to fish that area. I've tried about every technique out there but old school seems to work best for some reason. No flasher, just bait or spoon.
