There was a WDFW Conference call with the Puget Sound Recreational Salmon Advisors this afternoon wherein the harvest in the two areas was outlined

Here is the summary of the call:

· Area 9 is 38% (1,227) way through the 3,218 quota

· Area 10 is 24% (263) way through the 1,1112 quota

· No WDFW management action is needed to be taken as plenty of quota is left to get through the weekend and beyond.

The fishery is still on a quota basis but should go well into August assuming the catch rate remains stable. :ugeek:

Are they using a plane and averaging the catch rate based on the number of boats counted on the water?

Creel census data is the basis of the estimates.
A CPUE or Catch Per Unit Effort is established and then multiplied by the number of boats out fishing.
That's the methodology in broad strokes. rockon

Jeff -
The following links may help -

http://wdfw.wa.gov/publications/01580/wdfw01580.pdf
http://wdfw.wa.gov/publications/01618/wdfw01618.pdf

The first is a 4 page report on the methods WDFW uses to develop catch estimates in those Mark Selective fisheries.

The second is the 2013 report of the all the Puget Sound selective fisheries.

Take a look and we'll attempt to answer any other questions that may come up.

I was told by some guys who fishes in Area 10 most of his lifetime that the shakers, Hatchery Chinook (released unintentionally) are counted toward the quota. This guy was so mad and upset that he was telling everyone at boat launch NOT to report your catches like: (small shaker salmon).

Can anyone chime in on this? Is this guy for really for real?
