There's no need to run a spreader bar with this rig. Run short heavy leaders and you won't have any problem with tangles...halibut aren't leader shy. Snag up a spreader bar and you've just lost another $5 worth of gear. The only downside to this rig vs. a tuna cord slider is that the tuna cord is much easier to handle when you've got a fish at the side of the boat. I overcome that by wearing heavy gloves. They all have their place...I just like the simplicity of the this setup and it works.
